Bestselling author Laura Lippman joins us to discuss her new psychological thriller, Dream Girl. It tells the story of Gerry, a writer who is injured in a freak accident and confined to a hospital bed in a high-rise apartment in Baltimore. Then late one night, he receives a call from a woman claiming to be "Aubrey" the title character from his most successful novel. WNYC planning editor Kate Hinds joins us to discuss the stories the newsroom has been following this week. Author and architectural designer Thomas Rinaldi joins us to discuss his new book, Patented: 1,000 Design Patents. The book explores and celebrates the unexpected everyday objects imagined by designers, inventors, creators, and innovators from all over the world. We'll also take calls from listeners about their patents and invention ideas. John Birdsall, author of The Man Who Ate Too Much: The Life of James Beard, joins us for the June installment of Full Bio about the life of chef, author, teacher, and television personality James Beard. In Part 2, we learn about James Beard's life after he leaves Reed College and moves to New York City, where he attends a dinner party that changes his life. Lucy Dacus, a singer/songwriter who played with Julien Baker and Phoebe Bridgers in the group, boygenius, recently released her third album, Home Video. The album draws from Dacus’s memories of growing up in Richmond, Virginia and exploring queerness in a Christian community. Dacus joins us for a Listening Party.
