'Nuclear Family', Kate Has A Plan, A Listening Party with Theo Croker, Sarah Ruhl, Ashley C. Ford
All Of It - A podcast by WNYC
“Nuclear Family,” a new docuseries on HBO, chronicles the story of a lesbian couple who created a family in the early 80’s through surrogacy before it was a common practice and the tensions and legal fights that emerged when one of the donors wanted custody. Ry Russo-Young was the child at the center of the fight and she also serves as the film’s director. She’ll be here to discuss her story, her complicated relationship with her family, and the production of the series. WNYC planning editor Kate Hinds joins us for our ongoing series, "Kate Has a Plan," to discuss the stories the newsroom is following this week. Grammy-nominated trumpeter Theo Croker recently released a new album, BLK2LIFE || A FUTURE PAST. The self-produced album features Wyclef Jean, Ari Lennox, Kassa Overall, and many more. Croker joins us for a Listening Party. After two-time Pulitzer Prize nominee and playwright Sarah Ruhl successfully gives birth after a high-risk pregnancy, she thinks the worst of her health crises are behind her. Then, the left side of her face becomes paralyzed, due to Bell’s palsy. She is assured that in 90% of cases, the condition begins to improve, and eventually recovers fully. But that doesn’t happen. Ruhl chronicles her struggles with Bell’s palsy, and with post-partum depression, in her new memoir, Smile: The Story of a Face. [REBROADCAST FROM June 16, 2021] Writer, podcaster, and web series host, Ashley C. Ford, joins us to discuss her highly anticipated memoir, Somebody's Daughter.
