Playwright and Director of Pulitzer-winning 'Fat Ham'

All Of It - A podcast by WNYC

Categories:

Fresh off winning a Pulitzer Prize, playwright James Ijames joins us to discuss "Fat Ham," his new interpretation of "Hamlet." A lot happens at a family cookout when a queer black college kid named Juicy is questioning his identity. Suddenly, the ghost of his father shows up and wants his son to get payback for his murder. But Juicy wants to break the cycle of violence in his life, and also in his community. The play is directed by The Public's associate artistic director Saheem Ali, and is a co-production with National Black Theatre. Ijames and Ali join to discuss "Fat Ham," which runs until June 12.
