"I don't make sacrifices I make decisions to get to where I want to be." Today we're joined by UFC fighter Jessy Jess who pulls back the curtain on what it's like being a professional athlete and how she went from living in a van with her family in Australia to working 3 jobs and sleeping 1 hour a night to moving to the states and becoming a full time athlete. We also discuss her journey to sobriety, how she's able to train 4-9 hours a day, and how she's learned to lowered her overhead costs to be able to devote herself wholly to her goals. Also, what it's like being a woman in the male-dominated UFC, how listening to her body helped her make the decision to go up a weight division, and how she confronts mental blocks and challenges in a sport that requires so much focus and confidence. Of course we talk about what fighting requires of your body, including her experiences with sometimes grueling weigh ins with no water, being in a sauna for 16 hours straight to be able to fight at 125 lbs - a weight class she later decided to leave after learning her thyroid was shutting down, among other things. Through it all she takes complete control of her life, her decisions and approaches everything with the mindset of champion. Listen to this episode and TRY not to be inspired. I dare you.
