SUFB 990: Fish And Sediment In Gulf Of Mexico Contain Oil From The BP Oil Spill

How To Protect The Ocean - A podcast by Andrew Lewin

A decade ago, we witnessed one of the most devastating oil spills in the world as the Deepwater Horizon oil platform leaked oil into the Gulf of Mexico. The oil platform was owned by BP, who was fined $4.5 billion for the spill and the damage it caused to the Gulf of Mexico. $500 million dollars was granted to a coalition of agencies, non-profit organizations, and academic institutes to study the effects of the spill on the habitats and the ocean floor.  An article in the Conversation was published recently that revealed fish livers and the ocean bottom contain oil from the BP oil spill, ten years later. Listen to the episode for more results.  Link To Article: https://theconversation.com/scientists-have-found-oil-from-the-deepwater-horizon-blowout-in-fishes-livers-and-on-the-deep-ocean-floor-133145 How long do you think the Gulf will take to recover from the oil spill?
