China censors Western companies concerned about Uyghur forced labour

China tries to intimidate Western companies and governments to refrain from criticizing Beijing but it’s a two way street and can not last long, says Frank Jüris, China expert and Research Fellow of the Estonian Foreign Policy Institute. Some western companies in China have recently found themselves between a rock and a hard place as they manoeuvrer between Communist party’s pressure and Western public opinion. Companies such as H&M, Adidas and others have expressed concern over reported used of of Uyghur forced labor in cotton production. A boycott campaign has been launched in Chin against these brands, their logos even censored on tv.
