150. "There's No Period to This Story" - Melanie Clark

National Fire Radio Podcast Platform - A podcast by Jeremy Donch

Everything changed for Melanie Clark on October 11, 2018. Lt. Brad Clark of the Hanover County, VA Fire and EMS Department was killed while protecting and saving his own during a motor vehicle crash on Interstate 295. A leader in the fire service and a strong voice for promoting the job, Brad had an infectious personality and he could light up any room. His consuming demeanor was the strong foundation in which Melanie Clark and her family were fueled by. After the accident, Melanie had to find her way without her rock. "I lost my identity that night" is a sentence that is so heavy to hear, yet, Melanie lived it. The strong foundation in which her late husband built was now Melanie's to build upon. She has made it her mission to protect first responders with educating and fighting for Move Over legislation by sharing her painful story. Melanie's grief has turned into her legacy of protecting us, the firefighters, from the dangers that are ever present on our roadways. Her persistence and dedication to this mission now fuels her growth in life and for that, I am grateful. -- Help support Melanie's mission by checking out her social media pages.
