116. Expectation of Leadership - Dave Brierty

The volunteer fire service needs strong leadership. Vision, fostering an environment of professionalism and providing service to our community is paramount. Dave Brierty, a multi-generational firefighter is getting ready to become the Chief of Department. His tenure in the fire service has prepared him to take the helm come the first of the new year. The process is important when climbing the ranks. Each position requires street experience and time to ensure the upward transition to the next rank is deserved. There is no entitlement in this job. Nothing should be handed out. We must earn each step within our career and Dave believes that the process must be intentional. Leadership takes time spent in the trenches along side your people while creating an environment that propels your people and department forward. 19 years in and Dave smiles as he thinks about his past while planning for his future. The culmination of hard work and dedication makes the achievement of the Chief position so fulfilling and well deserved.
