130. You Never Know the Seeds You Plant - Dave Quick

National Fire Radio Podcast Platform - A podcast by Jeremy Donch

Lieutenant Dave Quick will tell you that he hasn't always been the service oriented firefighter we all think we should be. Dave talks about how it is easy to find yourself going down the road of bitterness and how to pull yourself out of the ruts that plague the fire service. As Dave puts it, years 3-8 are critical in determining the type of firefighter you want to become. Dave made the choice to refocus and speaks about how much better the job is when you fully commit to it. Patience and timing is all part of the equation as well for Dave. Building relationships within the department and others in the fire service must be organic. Nothing can be forced. Forced connections and relationships are not sustainable and allowing yourself to organically find your way allows for so many doors to be opened during your career. Working as a consultant for Mercedes Textiles has certainly helped in his refocusing of his love of the job. The influence of solid individuals has helped shape Dave into the Lieutenant and Brother he has wanted to be. It's now his turn to help influence others and make an impact on his crews and those he meets while instructing. Finding fulfillment in the job has truly allowed Dave to flourish in becoming a better firefighter, officer and person.
