Darcy Gaechter

It took 148 days for Darcy Gaechter to kayak the Amazon River source to sea. She began in the Andes mountains of Peru, and we typically don't think of the Amazon as having waters with near freezing temperatures. Not only did she have to succumb to the near sub zero waters and the month long class 5 rapids, but she also paddled 4 arduous months of flat water with river pirates, narco drug traffickers, local tribal villages along the banks, and remnants of militant groups who were an even more dangerous threat.
