ACT 1: We witness Dov Katz's forbidden love for Inga, a non-Jewish girl from their town, much to the dismay of his father, Rabbi Avrum Katz. Meanwhile, Wolf, Dov's brother and a Jewish freedom fighter, returned from Poland with news of the raging war engulfing Europe.
