The Cosmic Savannah - Ep. 57: From Dust To Dust

The 365 Days of Astronomy - A podcast by 365DaysOfAstronomy.org

Hosted by Dr. Jacinta Delhaize & Dr. Daniel Cunnama. We are joined by Dr. Omima Osman, a lecturer at the University of Khartoum in Sudan, who recently completed her PhD at the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR) in Western Australia.   Omima’s PhD research was all about cosmic dust. She explains how this dust forms in the death throes of massive stars, how it grows in interstellar space and how it’s then, in turn, destroyed again by the death of stars. Omima also spoke to us how her research into the “stickiness” and “chance of destruction” of dust grains can have an impact on simulations of star formation, and therefore our understanding of how galaxies evolve.   We've added a new way to donate to 365 Days of Astronomy to support editing, hosting, and production costs.  Just visit: https://www.patreon.com/365DaysOfAstronomy and donate as much as you can!
