Hey kids, it’s The Shred for July 27, 2018, brought to you by Judge.com. Whether you’re moving your systems to the cloud, building out a team for your next project, finding healthcare talent for your organization, filling that mission critical direct hire to lead your team, or training your employees on the latest technology, Judge.com can deliver to ensure your organization’s long-term growth. To the news: Freelance gig marketplace Upwork confidentially filed for IPO this week, according to Recode; Upwork, as many remember is the product of a 2013 merger of Elance and oDesk; the company has raised $169M to date, according to Crunchbase. Will you be a buyer? Now to Facebook, at this week’s Jobg8 conference, industry insider Matt Charney revealed in a keynote address that the social network is testing a candidate matching feature. Details were sparse, but it looks like once a job is posted, Facebook recommends users across its entire network who fit the job requirements. No news on what the algorithm looks like at this point – for example, does it only show candidates within a certain geotarget – but an official release should be forthcoming in the next few weeks. Sticking with Facebook, they acquired communications tool Redkix this week. Redkix lets companies manage chat, email, groups, and more within Slack-like channels; the service will shut down and the technology will be rolled into Facebook’s Slack wannabe Workplace. Redkix had raised $17M to date. Now to Google, Big G announced this week that it was launching profile search in private beta. The new technology enables recruiters and sourcers to discover talent in their existing candidate databases. So, if you’re keeping score at home, LinkedIn, Facebook and now Google are officially in the candidate matching game. As usual, we’ll be sure to discuss the news in greater depth on the weekly show, so be sure to tune-in. Once again, thanks to our sponsor Judge.com.
